Brief History of the Green Scapular

The Green Scapular originates from the 1840 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Sr. Justine Bisqueyburu, a Sister of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. Mary entrusted this scapular to the Church as a special instrument of grace—especially for those in need of conversion of heart, peace of soul, or physical healing. Unlike other scapulars, it requires no enrollment and may be worn, carried, or even placed discreetly near someone for whom one is praying.

Its central prayer, recommended to be said daily, is: “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”
